FDA Issues Warning About Certain Products Containing Toxic Yellow Oleander | FDA
The FDA has added three products to this safety alert. FDA tested the products and found that they contain toxic yellow oleander. The agency is reminding consumers to avoid these products because they have been tested and found to contain toxic yellow oleander and can cause neurologic, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular adverse health effects that may be severe, or even fatal. FDA continues to investigate the safety of botanical weight loss products on the market by testing for yellow oleander.
FDA has finally issued a long-awaited proposed rule to tighten oversight of “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) substances. Although the rule would require companies to submit notifications for self-determined GRAS ingredients to the agency, it does not establish a premarket review and approval process for GRAS substances.
A new study published in Nature examined Enterococcus spp. at the food–human interface and found a high prevalence of multidrug resistance (MDR), antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and virulence genes. It also found significant biofilm-forming ability among isolates recovered from retail meats, retail workers, and consumers.
