If you imported, manufactured, or exported* exempted products containing mercury in 2025, you must report them by March 31, 2026

China – WTO notification – new MRLs for pesticides in food – Canadian Food Exporters Association (CFEA)

This message is to inform you of a recent World Trade Organization (WTO) notification from China regarding revisions to its National Food Safety Standard for Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Pesticides in Foods. The revised standard proposes 598 new MRLs covering 126 pesticides across various food categories. The proposed date of entry into force has not been announced.

Estee Lauder Cosmetics Ltd. fined $750,000 for violating the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 – Canada.ca

On January 13, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Estee Lauder Cosmetics Ltd. was fined $750,000 after pleading guilty to two counts of violating the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (the Act). These two offences were related to the failure to inform the government regarding a significant new activity and the failure to comply with a compliance order.

Statement by the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, on the Federal Court of Appeal’s decision regarding the listing of plastic manufactured items under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 – Canada.ca

Today, the Court of Appeal overruled the Federal Court decision declaring the 2021 Order adding ‘plastic manufactured items’ to Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 invalid and unlawful. This means that Canada’s Single-use Plastics Prohibition Regulations remain in force.

FDA Launches PreCheck Pilot Program to Strengthen Domestic Pharmaceutical Manufacturing | FDA
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today began accepting requests to participate in the FDA PreCheck pilot program. FDA PreCheck is designed to strengthen the domestic pharmaceutical supply chain by increasing regulatory predictability, facilitating the construction of manufacturing sites in the U.S., and streamlining aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing facility assessments in advance of a specific product application.

In statements late Friday afternoon, both the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the outbreak strain of the Clostridium botulinum toxin had been found in an ingredient. The manufacturer of the powdered milk ingredient was not named by either agency.
